Regionwide Matuku-Hūrepo (Bittern) Survey 2024
The 2024 Hauraki Coromandel Regionwide survey encompassed 89 sites, and matuku were observed at 58% of the survey sites. This survey helped to identify key hotspots of matuku breeding activity which will bolster community efforts to protect this vulnerable species.

Regionwide Matuku-Hūrepo (Bittern) Survey 2023
In 2023 a baseline survey was conducted by local volunteers which included 29 monitoring sites. The intention is that this region-wide survey will be repeated annually to track population distribution.
